The journey continues
Happy New Year! There are a lot of possibilities as the new year begins. The past few months, from politics to parties, many things are new.
Usually, when the new year comes we set goals or resolutions. It feels wonderful to take a new direction and face new challenges. You have probably heard some quotes related to journey versus destination. I always feel that the destination will change, but the journey continues.
One thing we need to be mindful of when we set new goals or resolutions is to not carry old obstacles with us when we set off in a new direction. Remember what those obstacles were before, so that you don’t let them get in the way as your journey continues.
I’m sure this is a consideration with downtown businesses, as we continue to evolve and grow. When planning for future endeavors, most businesses will take a page from the playbook of other businesses that came before them to make sure they do not trip over the same obstacles as their predecessors.
Usually you would want to see what worked for someone else, and what didn’t, then come up with a plan to put that information together to do something new and improved. So it should be with new goals and resolutions. But remember, some of the same tools will need to be applied: commitment, choices, consistency, perseverance, taking action.
If you set the goal too big, you will feel overwhelmed and possibly give up. If you have a big goal, remember to break it down into manageable action steps. This way you won’t feel overwhelmed and give up on your ultimate goal.
So yes, set your new goals and forge ahead on your continued journey. Welcome to 2017!
