Happy birthday, El Cortez!
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the El Cortez Hotel & Casino. Opened in 1941, the El Cortez is the last remaining Mission Revival-Style hotel-casino in Las Vegas and the only casino in the United States on the National Register of Historic Places.
In this photo, taken in 1947, the El Cortez is beautifully featured during the Helldorado Days parade. The image is also the first one taken by the Desert Sea News Bureau, which was later renamed the Las Vegas News Bureau.
